Towards the end of routine training Solent Rescue 2 was approached by Hamble lifeboat who had been tasked to locate a missing swimmer last seen east Lepe area.

Initial details were sketchy and the description was given as a male in a dark wet suit.

SR2 started a shore line search from Lepe spit heading West, whilst conducting the search further information came to light from a passing vessel who reported seeing a swimmer mid channel and further West

SR2 stepped the search area further from the shore. As the search was continuing a passing rib had located the swimmer and Hamble Lifeboat proceeded to go along side and SR2 headed for that location opposite Newtown Creek. the swimmer was safe and well but adamant he was going to swim to the Isle of Wight so both lifeboats stood by the swimmer to fend off approaching vessels.

Once the swimmer was nearing the shore SR2 was released from the tasking and headed back for recovery
