02/08/08 - Vessel taking in water

Solent Rescue come across vessel taking on water in the Medina just of the ferry terminal.

10:30 - Solent Rescue 1 informed Solent Coastguard of intentions to enter the Medina at Cowes to refuel. Solent Coastguard Acknowledged.

10:45 - Solent Rescue 1 refueled and heading back into Solent.

10:50 - Solent Rescue 1 waved down by small racing dinghy that had been holed below the water line and was rapidly taking on water and in danger of sinking. Three persons on board. Radio'd Solent Coastguard of incident and proceeded to assist.

10:51 - On scene, vessel rapidly taken under tow to halt vessel being pulled into the path of passing ferry.

10:55 - Vessel taking under tow to shallower waters.

11:10 - In conjunction with Coastguard Cowes mobile unit, vessel stabilised in shallower waters by weight being transferred away from bow, upon inspection, fibre glass panels were agreed upon to repair damage.

13:30 - repairs completed, Solent Rescue 1 tows casualty to agreed berth.

14:00 - Solent Rescue 1 heads into Solent to resume patrol.
