Saturday
Crew arrived early to complete a few pieces of running maintenance on the jet and then Solent Rescue 1 was released to the Coastguard for SAR tasking.
A prolonged patrol of the West was completed, then a quick refuel in Cowes.
It was then decided to put the vessel back on the trailer as the sea and wind state was such that the vessel would not of held its anchorage.
SR1 was therefore available for launch upon request.
Sunday
With the weather changing to a much calmer status, Solent Rescue took this time to have a training day to show new crew the difference between operating a jet drive and prop.
This was also used as a refresher course for senior crew to recap on old tricks.
By 14:00 all training was completed.
During this time Solent Rescue was still available for service.
The only activity during the day was the investigation of a significant oil slick which spread from the edge Gull Island to 500 metres past Lepe spit.
Samples were taken and passed to Southampton CG mobile unit (Yes, Solent Rescue go CSI!).
Additional information:
It would appear that even when abroad on business, Solent Rescue crew cannot seem to help attracting drama.
Ian Blomquist, (senior coxswain of Solent Rescue) was in Spain last week during flash flooding and ended up rescuing a local chap who was being washed down a road that had turned into a rapid flowing torrent with the intensity of the storm water.
Ian managed to grab the man as he swept past him, well done Ian, OLE!
