Activity Log

Saturday

Solent Rescue completed two patrols in the Western Solent, all was quiet upon the water even though there was heavy usage by a large variety of vessels, the calm seas, neap tide and minimal wind meant a placid day was had by all.

On land however, Solent Rescue were kept busy with all manner of first aid incidents, the two most notable of these were a man requiring stitches to his hand being patched up and sent in the direction of casualty and another gentleman receiving a substantial blow to the head.  Again, he required stitches and once again directed to get to hospital as soon as possible to get the wound sealed and and concussion symptoms looked into.

Sunday

With weather being very similar to Saturday, mariners headed to sea in large numbers.  Solent Rescue completed 3 patrols in the west.  On the 3rd patrol, just as we came off our mooring, a vessel ran aground on Lepe Spit, we attached a line and eased them off the soft shail.

As we were engaged with this job, another vessel ran aground on the same obstruction, SR1 called it in to the CG.  Luckily for the second yacht, Hamble lifeboat were also at Lepe and quickly checked the vessel and crew over for injuries and hull damage.  Unfortunately for this vessel, one crew member received a suspected broken finger, whilst another gained a nasty suspected whiplash.

Solent Rescue were established in 1971 initially as a beach rescue unit operated by auxiliary coastguards. Solent Rescue has since then developed into a fully operational independent lifeboat station, which operates under the direct control of HM Coastguard and is responsible for approximately 33 square miles of the central and western Solent.
