Activity Log

Saturday.

With the Little Britain Cup taking centre stage within the Solent, especially in the west, we launched our vessel and placed it upon it's mooring so as to ensure it was rapidly available to HMCG in the event of an incident.

Having done this, the crew tucked into a full english breakfast whilst listening on 0 with the comedic quips that "It would be just our luck to be about to eat and we get a job" .

Solent Coastguard tasked SR1 for immediate launch to a 40ft sailing yacht calling Pan Pan off Gurnard.  The crew rapidly got to our vessel and proceeded to Gurnard, upon receipt of the lat and long, we made our way to the exact location where the vessel in distress was attempting to anchor.

A tow astern was deemed to be unsuitable as the rudder was jammed hard to port and resulted in zig zagging.

SR1 then placed them in a side by side tow and began to take them back to Cowes.  It was a rather choppy ride but the vessel was put along side in Cowes Yacht Haven after navigating through heavy racing and (at that point) a very busy ferry channel.

SR1 returned to station.

During the afternoon, Solent Rescue station raised additional rescue resources in order to come to the aid of a 8 year old boy who had fallen 16ft from a tree.  Solent Rescue first aiders, stabilised the casualty by ensuring he stayed imobile and conscious until the arrival of more specialised resource.

A busy day, well done all.

Sunday.

A very quiet day for Solent Rescue, we completed two patrols and recovered without further incident.

....  Apart from the chairman of the Solent Sea Rescue Organisation popping in.  We managed to get our number 1's on and boots polished just in time!
