Activity Log

Saturday

Solent Rescue 1 was launched in the morning and completed three patrols.

Solent Rescue 2 came across a yacht aground in Stanswood Bay and reported back to Solent Rescue base and the Coastguard.

Solent Rescue 1 moved to a position in order to ascertain the situation.  It transpired that the vessel had run aground with a rope around its prop and the skipper was suiting up to clear the obstruction.

SR1 informed the coastguard and stood off whilst the gentleman proceeded to dive off his boat and clear the offending item.

Once this was done, skipper was happy to wait in order to come off on the rising tide, SR1 set a ketch for the vessel and continued on its patrol.

Sunday

Look out was opened for first aid and the boat had to have a minor repair completed in order for the vessel to be ready for it's next tasking.

In other news, we would like to thank Colin Olden of Olden Marine and Hamble Lifeboat for his work on our boat during Cowes week.  Without his rapid turnaround speed SR1 would have been off the water at such a busy time.

Cheers Colin.

Solent Rescue were established in 1971 initially as a beach rescue unit operated by auxiliary coastguards. Solent Rescue has since then developed into a fully operational independent lifeboat station, which operates under the direct control of HM Coastguard and is responsible for approximately 33 square miles of the central and western Solent.
