16/08/08 - Kayaks caught in strong currents and tidal stream
Solent Rescue launches to 3 canoes that were under observation for not making headway against increasing winds and currents.
13:30 - After observing 2 * kayaks and 1 * indian open topped kayak attempting to head for Gunard Bay, Solent Rescue launched amid concerns that they had been forced by tidal flow and current to the west of expected target.
13:40 - Upon arrival, the first two man kayak, all was well and they were happy to continue on their way
13:42 - The second vessel, upon closer inspections, had become water logged and was debilitated by the fact that only one person was able to paddle whilst the other was constantly bailing out. With the permission of all involved Solent Rescue took the 3 persons off the vessel, placed the canoe upon its deck and returned to Lepe after speaking to the final single manned kayak who had decided to turn back
13:57 - Solent Rescue placed vessel and 3 persons ashore and headed back out to the single man kayak who had now become caught in strong currents and was now off Saltmead buoy
14:10 - On scene, person and kayak taken onboard
14:20 - returned to Lepe
14:40 - Ensured 3rd 2 man kayak made safe landing back at Lepe.
