The recent appeal by the Solent Rescue lifeboat crew for funds to repair their damaged boat has been answered thanks to the staff at John Lewis in Southampton.

A fire broke out on the Solent Rescue’s only lifeboat in July during a rescue mission to save an upturned catamaran. News of their plight soon spread to John Lewis at Southampton who waded in to help meet the total, and now repairs are finally underway.

ExxonMobil Helps to Ensure Solent Rescue’s Future

Solent Rescue, an independent lifeboat station based on the Solent, has recently been given a donation of £1,350 to purchase much needed equipment courtesy of Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley.

At the start of each new season the charity must replenish their stocks of items such as safety helmets and VHF radios and without ExxonMobil’s grant this would not have happened.

Solent Rescue is responsible for roughly 33 square miles of the central and west Solent and relies on the commitment of 20 volunteers to carry out their safety operations. The life-saving team are classed as 'inshore lifeboats', meaning they provide assistance to inshore water activities such as windsurfing, yachting and swimming.

“I would like to thank ExxonMobil for their continued support. Without their help it would be very difficult to continue offering the high level of cover that people have come to expect from our unit. So far, this year has been one of the busiest on record with over 25 incidents, ranging from boats on fire to injured children. We hope that no one needs us for the rest of the year but if they do we are always there to make the Solent as safe as possible,” said Ian Blomquist, Senior Coxswain.

Bill Fraser, organisational effectiveness manager at ExxonMobil, commented: “We are very pleased to be able to support this important voluntary service. As a small boat owner myself it is nice to know the Solent Rescue team is there and ready to help.”

Impact Media Become Major Contributor To Solent Rescue

At Impact Media we have recently become a major contributor to Solent Rescue after donating our services to the Independant Lifeboat Organisation, this donation will raise the profile of the Solent Rescue website and increase their online visibility.

Solent Rescue were established in 1971, since then they have developed into a fully operational lifeboat station, which operates under the direct control of HM Coastguard and is responsible for approximately 33 square miles of the central and western Solent.

In order to fund their operation the organisation rely purely on donations from the public and local businesses; therfore we hope our contribution will greatly benefit Solent Rescue and help raise awareness of their work over the coming months.

Cameron Critchfield writes:

On Sunday the 10th of May, Solent Rescue were invited to the "Star Sensations" Event hosted by CFK Promotions Ltd.

We were most generously allowed to put up a display regarding our unit and it's history.

Being a small local charity this meant a great deal to us and just as importantly we had a fantastic evening, thoroughly entertained by the local acts wishing to hit the big time.

We look to working with CFK promotions Ltd on a long term basis to further raise the publics awareness of the good work both organisations do.

Again, thank you for a great evening.
