We at Solent Rescue Independent Lifeboat (not to be confused with the RNLI) are an organisation with a crew of the highest calibre with excellent levels of camaraderie & motivation.Based at the Lepe Country Park, we were established in 1971 initially as a beach rescue unit operated by auxiliary coastguards. Solent Rescue has since then developed into a fully operational lifeboat station, which operates under the direct control of HM Coastguard and is responsible for approximately 33 square miles of the central and western Solent.

Responding to Call

We have over the years gained an extremely good working relationship with the Coastguard and find ourselves being actively assigned to vessels or people running into difficulties within the Western Solent. These incidents can vary dramatically and we must be prepared for all eventualities, from capsized catamarans to persons over board, head injuires, disabled motor cruisers and so on.

We run a lookout from the cliff at Lepe proactively looking for vessels or people in distress.  We also help co-ordinate searches in the park and surrounding foreshore for missing persons. Another of our little known jobs is to provide a First Aid station for the country park that keeps us busy dealing with a multitude of ailments from stings and cuts to broken bones.
